Pakistani Bokhara Rug
History of Pakistani Bokhara RugsWhenever you see the name Bokhara describing a rug, it usually means the Tekke-faced rugs. This is the name of a tribe that came originally from a region of Central Asia known as Bokhara, and the looks of any Pakistan Bokhara rug will originate with the designs and styles of the earliest Tekke tribal rugs. The tribe was also known to use elements of Salor tribe design, too, and so the Pakistan Bokhara rugs actually have ties back to those areas of Asia. Additionally, you will find Bokhara rugs made in areas as wide ranging as Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan and India.
What is the Appearance of Pakistani Bokhara Rugs?
The looks of a Pakistan Bokhara rug are very distinctive and dominated by clear cut rows of geometric patterns and “guls”. Most feature heavily ornamental borders in accenting colors and the pile will vary depending upon the particular rug and weaver.
For example, some have longer threads and are known as double pile Pakistan Bokhara rugs, which have a lot of padding under foot. Then there are more tightly clipped designs that have extremely bold patterns but not as much softness or density under foot. Typically, the Pakistan Bokhara rugs are noted for their heavier pile, bold and appealing colors, and luxurious feel.
They are made of wool and use brighter hues, making them quite distinct from other Tekke-faced rugs.
How to Care for Pakistan Bokhara Rugs
While most wool rugs will feature natural or vegetable dyes, the Pakistan Bokhara are now being made with synthetic dyes to ensure color fastness. This means you can enjoy a bit of easier upkeep and even more stain resistance.
Still, you do not want to harm the rug using a vacuum with beater brush. So gently use suction only machines and spot clean stains with natural soaps, and be sure to get it routinely maintained with NYCleaners.
